1/3/13 The trial begins

At 11 a.m. I finally begin the trial program.  I take 5 pills.  I’ve already had 3 ekgs, bloodwork, 3 “vitals,” a physical from a doctor, significant time with nurse/practitioner, I will have more of all those things over the next 8 hours here at the hospital.  Then I’ll come back here tomorrow morning to do many of them again.

Good  signs:  1.  even though I’m groggy, I can at least type this:  I haven’t been able to read or even watch TV since Monday.  2.  Not hiccuping at all.  For the first time since the Wednesday before Christmas.  3.  Little coughing.  4.  breathing feeling healthier again.

  2. I’m praying for you and Ginny both. You bring such light and life wherever you go. I’ve met few people who are loved by so many. You know that, I’m sure. All those people, all those thoughts, good vibes, prayers, pleas and well wishes going up on your behalf. Hope they return some peace as you guys walk this hard road. Xxx

Okay, 3 pieces of good news that weren’t there yesterday. Less hiccups, less coughing, more breathing. Now that I know this site exists will check it frequently. Love to you and Ginny. We miss you both here in Richmond. xox

  4. Thinking of you Mike. With love, Kathy

Mike, today is the first time I’ve read your blog. (Thanks to H.V., who showed me how to find your blog.) Would you mind if I told some of my friends at church and family members, that I consider true prayer warriors, about you and Ginny, and how we need to pray for a miracle? They do happen. When I was much younger (please don’t ask how much younger…) our family was told my dad had about 6 weeks to live. Well, he showed them. He lived 13 years and the cancer that was supposed to kill him did NOT. His heart decided one day to simply stop beating. So, if you don’t mind, I’d like to ask God for a couple of miracles… on behalf of both you and Ginny. Okay? LaVerne

  7. I hope the trial program helps. And that you continue to breathe better.

Mike, I’m just finding this blog. My heart and prayers are with you and Ginny. xoxo

  9. Mike, I look forward to reading the next fifteen years of your medical commentary, but written fom a beach somewhere.

  11. Barbara Joynes says:

Thinking of you both. Make sure the docs understand you need the ‘able to type’ drugs!

Humor is a pivotal supplemental aspect to clinical trials—you seem to always have that and clear perspective in spades. The Lages are sending abundant positive thoughts and prayers and light and love to you and Ginny. (One of our doctor-dispensed mantras was “this seems an incompetent cancer.” We repeated that over and over. Think “almost always curable” has great mantra potential…)

    Mike-

I just found out today that this blog existed.. Our thoughts are with you and Ginny every minute of every day, and we will now follow the blog religiously.

As I hope goes without saying, if you want me to do anything for you personally or at the agency, just think it. I am really good at intuitive thought balloons.

With affection and deep friendship, Bruce and Ella

  16. Fergus O'Carroll says:

That’s a heavy burden for you both to carry, Mike. But, as I always say to my young twin girls, don’t let the fear win. You’re both in my thoughts… and I have always been thankful for having started out with you, John and TMA. Hope to see you soon.

  17. Cook-Tench says:

Wow Mike, I’m so sorry to learn of your current health issues. I had no idea you were so sick until Joe Alexander posted a link to your blog and I saw it on Facebook. The news on Ginny makes it all the tougher. You’re both so strong and it’s great that you have each other but still… what a hard way to start 2013. I’m going to ask everyone in my church to pray for the two of you this morning. They’re a great group and take saying prayers seriously. If it’s OK, I’d love to add you to our weekly prayer list. Let me know and take care. You’re both in my thoughts and will be each day.

  18. Luke Sullivan says:

Love you mike. Am sending good vibes to both of you.

  19. Sheila says:

Mike, I’m saying big ole prayers for you and Ginny!! You’ve beat it before, you can beat it again!!

  20. Jean.Pierre told me about this blog tonight……………

So congrats with your news: Always remember Deep Breath New Life….
